A Note From Mrs. McDonald...

Happy weekend everyone! We had a whirlwind of goodbye events at school yesterday as the Falgarwood community gave our Mrs. McDonald a wonderful sendoff. Here's an email I just received from her. It was addressed to me, but it's really for everyone in grade 2.

Hi Ms. Stevenson

I wanted to thank you and your class for the thoughtful cards.  The messages and artwork were so lovely!  I especially loved the pop-up effect on cards!  Each message made me smile and warmed my heart!

I will miss you all!

Yep, you read that correctly. The orders for the Freeze Kids books are due tomorrow.

We had an awesome time today at the comic drawing workshop. I as amazed at how engaged and excited the kids were about their drawings. I've included a picture of the comics I drew alongside the kids during the workshop, just in case they didn't make it home tonight. I'm obviously not a wonderful artist, but we sure had fun trying our best...

The order will be submitted to the publishing company tomorrow morning at 10:00, and the books will be delivered to Falgarwood by the end of the school day. How's that for same day service!?

For more information about the group who put on the presentation today, here is the web site: http://fkcb.ca

... or direct to the publishing company at: http://www.freezekidscomicbooks.com/

Shoot me an email message if there's any issue with orders. I have extra order forms at school if needed.

Weekend Update: Sunday, January 10

Some things that we will be focusing on this week in grade 2:

Math: More tally charts and bar graphs. We need to be able to collect data in a tally chart and convert that data into a bar graph. We also need to be able to look at a tally chart or a bar graph and analyse the information found there. Quiz date: TBA.

Science: We are currently doing some experiments to learn about solids and liquids (what happens when we mix them together, do solids float or sink in water, absorbtion).

Literacy: Guided reading and Daily 5 activities.

Homework: Raz-Kids and Dreambox, please. Also, please ask your child to tell you about Number Talks with Miss Stoness.

Bus Safety Assembly: Friday morning.

Scholastic: Order goes in on Thursday.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break. We are ramping up for some fun things this month, but this week we are spending lots of time reviewing our rules and expectations in the classroom and around the school.

I sent Scholastic flyers home with the kids in their agendas today. I will put in an order next Thursday, January 14th.

We have been having a lot of trouble with kids tracking mud into the school on their shoes and boots. Extra dirt on the floor becomes a slipping hazard, not to mention it's just yucky to have dirt all over the place, so please ensure your child has indoor shoes to change into while in the school.

Thanks!
